There’s no doubt that Peruvian maca powder is an amazing superfood with wonderful benefits for its users. As a group that has enjoyed maca for over 10 years we can attest to its power as an energizer, hormone balancer and fertility enhancer.
We do receive lots of questions about this fantastic food. The most common is how much the adult daily dosage of maca should be. That’s a fairly simple question to answer, as long as you have a few of the following factors in mind.
First, is the question of what type of maca you are taking. We prefer raw organic maca in powder form because I can easily measure it out in a spoon and adjust quantities as needed. If you are taking maca capsules instead, it’s probably best to follow the directions on the label.
If your just beginning to take maca, it’s very important to start with small dosages and work your way up from
there. It’s true that there are no know side effects nor allergies from taking maca, but it’s best to begin slow with such a powerful food. For most of us, it’s something brand new.
Third, when you are using maca you need to use it daily if you wish to achieve the maximum benefit. This is particularly true if you are using maca powder in a therapeutic way – to relieve the symptoms of menopause or to build muscle, for example.
One final consideration is that, given time, our bodies develop a resistance to maca. When you’ve been taking it for a couple of months you may suddenly notice that it doesn’t seem to work as well anymore. Don’t panic. It’s normal. All you need to do is take a break from it. We build breaks in to our maca routine by taking 1 day per week and 1 week per month off from maca.
So, now here are the amounts of maca we recommend that most people start with. If your brand new to it, try just 1 teaspoon daily for around a week. If you feel good with that, then bump up to 2 and after another week to 3 teaspoons. Then stabilize around that level.
It’s more practical to take maca all at once, but it may be a bit more effective if you can spread it out through the day. It doesn’t seem to make much difference to take it with or without other food. On days that we know we need extra energy we take our maca spread out through the day.

I would like to consider listing Maca on my website. Do you have an Affiliate Program for this?
Not yet Jim. We can do wholesale, though.
Can you make a tincture with it and how much of it for a quart jar? Does it mix well with other herbs? I would like to make a 6week tincture with vodka mainly for hot flashes ( but the other things it does sounds great too. Also if you load your own capsules how many do you take?
Yes you can make a tincture with Raw Organic Maca Powder with other herbs. I’m not really sure how much I would add to a full quart of Vodka.
I think you’ll get better results for hot flashed by taking the raw herb either in capsules or mixed into juices.
Our standard recommendation is to take 1-3 teaspoons (4-12 grams) per day. A 00 size capsule holds almost 1 gram, so you’d take 4 to 12 of them daily.
That said, for hot flashes, some women end up taking more mace per day for a while -as much as 2 heaping tablespoons (28 grams) – in order to help alleviate the symptoms.
Since Maca is a food and not a drug you can’t take “too much.” It is wise, though, to start with a conservative dosage 1-2 teaspoons and work up from there.
